Money gives you the opportunity to make choices that are not open to you when you don’t have it. At its heart Black Founders Hub for me is about creating wealth by bringing us together to network at a Higher Level.
I have had the privilege of creating, growing and selling a multi-million pound legal services business. I worked hard, focused, learned a lot and had a lot of fun along the way, but it was also pretty lonely.
I was blessed to work with my awesome business partner and co-founder Janvi Patel, but when I looked for other black people undertaking this journey they were not obvious or easy to find.
At last count the professional services industries were worth £200 billion to the UK economy yet black business owners on average make less than 6 figure turnovers.
When I see those numbers I don’t see despair I see opportunity.
Knowing that black people in the UK have the worst outcomes in Education, Health, Housing and Justice, I know with every fibre in my being that we cannot wait for others to put us on, we have to do it ourselves.
We cannot get poor enough to help the poor or sick enough to help the sick.
We need to be Healthy and Wealthy to effect real change.
Economic Empowerment is what I wish for everyone but right now particularly for Black People and one way I know to create that is through the Power of the Network.
As the saying goes it’s not always what you know but who you know.
Meeting Rashida and David and creating BFH together has been truly magical. Born during Lockdown the spark and energy in our meetings is something we are eager to share.
We know the vibe and the realness we have when we talk, together with the intelligence, experience and generosity that will help us all to flourish.
We have a depth of expertise, creativity and tenacity in our community and there are plenty of us entering the professions and beavering away.
It’s time for us to rise up and take our businesses to the next level. A collective of black owned businesses that together will be worth over £1billion.
